Letter from our CEO, Hiro Nishimura
Message from CEO on April 06, 2011
Dear Participants and Friends of World Campus International, Inc.
Since I last communicated with you about two weeks ago, we have been closely following the work being done at the Fukushima nuclear power plant as well as the latest updates on the communities and victims of the earthquake and tsunami. We have also been engaged in ongoing communication with WCI hosting community partners and many of the applicants for the 2011 World Campus – Japan program in part to assess whether or not we should move forward with our summertime programs in light of these recent events.
Based on the helpful input from both our community partners and many of our applicants that they are still quite motivated to move forward with activities, we are pleased to announce that the World Campus - Japan program will run this summer!
In order to ensure that we can facilitate a safe and effective program which provides a positive learning experience to all participants and community members, we have made some adaptations to our original plan:
- We will facilitate our program in 3 summertime sessions to take place in the unaffected regions of Kyushu, Kansai and Chubu.
- To make sure there will be no inconveniences to participants or community members, we have suspend our plans to visit Tama City (Tokyo), Toride City (Ibaraki), Ueda City (Nagano), and Abiko City (Chiba) for the Summer 2011 schedule.
The new Summer 2011 program schedule is as follows:
Session 1 : June 23 – July 7 - Omura City (Nagasaki) & Omuta City (Fukuoka)
Session 2 : July 11 – July 25 - Kumamoto/Arao City (Kumamoto) & Uda City (Nara)
Session 3 : July 29 – August 12 - Suita (Osaka) & Toyota (Aichi)
Base on these changes, participants that have already enrolled in the originally scheduled sessions will be contacted by WCI immediately to make arrangements to switch to one or more of the newly scheduled sessions.
For your reference, below you will find a map of Japan which highlights the locations of the new Summer 2011 plan.
Recovery and rebuilding efforts for the affected North-Eastern Japan region will be long term and require major nation-wide (and we hope worldwide) efforts. Keeping this in mind, in addition to our regular Word Campus – Japan community activities, we recognize the importance of including activities that help to support the earthquake and tsunami victims in our summer program. Along with those efforts, interaction with our energetic and engaging international participants will be a very positive experience for Japanese citizens in our partner cities during this difficult time.
Thank you once again for your ongoing support of WCI's mission over the past several years as we impact countless lives in a meaningful way by providing people like you from around the world "unique access to Japan." And with our plan to move forward with programming this summer, I would ask you and your friends to consider participating in the 2011 World Campus – Japan program and be part of Japan's efforts to rebuild and while doing so experience the Japanese spirit of “GAMBARO, JAPAN!”
Sincerely,
Hiro Nishimura
