World Campus Teachers Initiative (WCTI)
Overview
The World Campus Teachers Initiative encourages Global Perspective by looking at education and child development in other parts of the world. It provides a chance to enhance, develop, and utilize all of the tools teachers have without the benefit of language. These experiences are designed to translate directly to the classroom.
World Campus Teachers Initiative gives participants a chance to observe, interact, and implement a lesson in a foreign classroom. World Campus International uses immersion in a foreign culture to enhance an educator’s ability to communicate with students. The World Campus Teachers Initiative translates directly and immediately to the classroom with increased sensitivity to the multicultural realities of today's students. It offers educators an opportunity to use and experiment with different techniques of communication, an empathetic appreciation of students who are living outside of their own culture, and a willingness to grow as a teacher and a person.
The WCI Teachers Initiative also provides a deep and unique personal growth opportunity for each of the participants. While in Japan, you will have a chance to stay with a local host family. You will get to know Japanese culture first hand while experiencing the challenges that ELL students from all over the world face every day. The host family experience is the most personally challenging and rewarding experience of the Teachers Initiative. Along with the classroom and host family experiences, you will get to touch some of Japan's history. World Campus International will take you beyond the tourist experience allowing participants to see, hear, and feel a piece of Japan's culture and history. Each of you will have at least one day where you will step out of the classroom and into the history books themselves.
